Replacement parts

# 3D printed replacement and spare parts

When a small plastic part breaks and no replacement is sold, it can often be 3D printed. If you have a 3D model, upload it on the [quotation page](https://3d.roboticgen.co/quote) for a free quote. If you only have the broken part, send photos and measurements on WhatsApp and we design the replacement first.

## Parts people replace

- Knobs, handles and buttons.
- Clips, catches and hinges for covers and lids.
- Battery covers, caps and end pieces.
- Brackets, holders and wall mounts.

## No 3D model? Start with the broken part

1. Take clear photos from several angles, with a ruler next to the part.
2. Measure the holes, thicknesses and edges that have to fit, in millimetres if you can.
3. Tell us what the part does and where it is used: indoors, outdoors, in heat.
4. Send it all on WhatsApp. Through the [3D design service](https://3d.roboticgen.co/services/3d-design) we draw the replacement, then print it.

## Choosing the material

- Indoors and away from heat: PLA.
- In a car, near a motor or anywhere that gets hot: ABS.
- Outdoors or around water: PETG.

See [PLA vs ABS vs PETG](https://3d.roboticgen.co/materials) for how the three compare.

## When not to print a part

Do not use a printed part where failure could hurt someone: brakes, steering, seat belts, child seats, gas fittings or anything that holds a heavy load overhead. A printed copy is not a certified replacement, and we do not claim any print is food-safe.

## Questions people ask

### Can you make a copy of a broken plastic part?

Often, yes. With the 3D design service we draw a replacement from photos and measurements of the broken part, then print it. Message us on WhatsApp to start.

### Do I need to send you the broken part?

Not necessarily. Start with clear photos from several angles next to a ruler, and the measurements of any holes and edges that have to fit. We will tell you on WhatsApp if anything else is needed.

### Can you print car parts?

Interior clips, covers and holders can be printed. Choose ABS rather than PLA, because PLA softens in a parked car. Do not use a printed part for brakes, steering, seat belts or anything else that keeps people safe.
